And here's the news about the HUGE PILLAR OF SMOKE we saw on the way back from CMA today :
"Forest fire burns in Colorado Co."

Seriously, this thing was visible for probably twenty-five miles or so.

I REALLY want to go to Quantum Clan's 4th of July party, but after the meeting (read : after the FRICKIN' HEAT) and the fun of trying to find a parking space, I think I'm just staying home tonight.

And while I'm staying home tonight after all the heat and possibly not even heading outside to check out the fireworks, I have to say that it's still probably a much more comfortable 4th than I had last year...

We might be a little late to Bagels tomorrow - the landlord's coming by to fix the AC in my room. While we should be able to leave once he's here, I do wanna stick around for a little bit. (And show him the dining room AC dying again...)

So, for anyone I'm missing, Happy 4th of July to you.

Okay, I admit that I'm more than a little vain, but I REALLY dig this shot.
Facebook's being a jerk, evidently.
(One of [info]shefsatyr's shots.)

Just a reminder - NO show this weekend, but we'll be back at J. Harding's on August 1st.

I have GOTTA do something about all the crap I've accumulated in my room. This is just getting to be nuts, and it's all my own damn fault.

Anyways, had a good time at the con this weekend - for my part, low-key and relaxing. I didn't get as much rest as I'd hoped on Friday (I took the day off after a week of steadily going downhill, functionality-wise), but Saturday and today were just nice. Saw the Apollocon regulars and also a few faces that don't usually make it, which was even better. Bought WAY more crap than I needed, but had fun in doing so.

(Let me pause here to bitch mightily at the LJ Scrapbook uploader - I WANT the iPhoto plugin working again.)

Okay, a few people have asked her about the costume, so here's the gallery of all FOUR pics I took this weekend, with two of her : <http://pics.livejournal.com/bibulb/gallery/0000d65s>. She got more than a little attention, and I was dang impressed. The MIB cluster that's pictured, I came across as SHE was taking photos of them in the lobby. It was kind of cool.

I didn't go to as many panels as I did last year, but while I feel kind of bad about that, I still had a great time. Also, I got to see one of my favorite authors front a nice low-volume blues power trio. THAT was awesome. Go check out Bland Lemon Denton, and while you're there read up on the rest of Bradley Denton's stuff.

Okay. I've had two ciders as muscle relaxant and sedative, so I'm going to go on to bed in a sec.

Hearing the band working on a non-slide guitar version of "This Is It" is kind of weird - to me, that change really pegs how much the structure of the band is mutating. It CHUGS in a way the Zoomack and Raycraft versions sidewound.

I like it - it's energetic in an exciting new way - but it's definitely interesting.

Under the moon and gravity soup.
Well, the Beans thing tonight was... impressive, to say the least. We had a sizable crowd in and of itself, and some of the people in said crowd included Rev. Bryan (yay!) and Lips. Frickin' LIPS was there, and it doesn't look like she's aged a day, and still as sweet as can be. Likewise, seeing everyone else was wonderful, and the energy everyone put out was just awesome. The crowd chorus response on "Burds on the Bus" and "Bally-Hoo" was just amazing. That was some powerful stuff.

[info]bassfingers had his first public showing with the band, and fit in all nice and purdy.

Plus, we got to do "Bite the Light", and I got to do the standing-behind-Beans thing like I'm supposed to do for the song. Just damn good.

Also, it was not nearly as humid as a June in Houston ought to be. However, I was working to take care of that by acting as a humidifier myself. I think I might have sweated out a pound or two there. (And I was reminded JUST how out of shape I am - I need to start working on my stamina soon. I nearly fell out a couple of times during "Burds on the Bus".)

Also, quick incidental note - since a few of us at Bagels are going to be disappearing for rehearsal, after some discussion tonight we decided to move TOMORROW'S meetup time to noon straight-up. (Given that the rehearsals are going to run at least through the rest of the month, we all ought to discuss what options people do or don't like for future consideration.)

Once again, got the Beans thing at J. Hardings, but there's a schedule change : we're playing at 9:00 PM for these Summer shows.

As previously, be there or be L7.
The concept, not the band.
Although the band were pretty cool.
I'm tired, making no sense, and should go to bed.

See y'all Saturday.

So [info]starcat_jewel linked to an archived New Yorker article on SUVs and how they've spawned a disconnect between comfort and safety for a number of drivers. I'd started a bit of a rant in her LJ about SUVs and such (short form : I'm aginnin 'em), when I realized that a classic Car and Driver review would make the point far better than I could in just how unnecessary things could get (without even addressing any Hummer-branded gear). Unfortunately, they've cycled out their archive, and robot's.txted it so that the Wayback Machine won't get it. Thankfully, I'd thought it was enough of a hoot back in the day that I had to save it for myself, so here it is, carefully preserved (albeit without photos) :

Longwinded verbiage about a particular SUV. )

(Also, in addition to my idea that SUVs require drivers to possess a CDL in order to qualify for their breaks on safety and environmental regs, I say that every SUV driver needs to watch Duel as part of their CDL course. Just a thought.)

"Hey! Mirage! Hound! You dropped the keys to the cage! Hello? Hey! Hey! You forgot your keys! I could get out!"
For the Spouse :

Shattered Glass, the terrifying mirror universe version of Transformers! (It's even got evil facial hair for the bad guys!)

And from this continuity, Starscream! Also, here's Ravage - and his Twitter page (awesome).
(And, in regards to the figure that "became" SG Ravage, one of the scariest things ever to grace the franchise.)

Mostly, looking at this particular universe is just a bunch of fun for old-tyme Transformers fans.
(Also for the Spouse : the Starscream clones from Animated.)

And unrelated : Joe King's mighty perkifyin'.
